*Minister Meet Hayer thanks the Chief Minister for the historic decision*
25 January (Gagandeep Singh) Barnala: Taking an important decision on the instructions of Chief Minister Mr Bhagwant Singh Mann, the education department has named the Government Primary School (boys) of Sehna village of district Barnala after Balwant Gargi, the doyen of Punjabi literature who was born in village Sehna. A notification has been issued in this regard today.
Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer thanked Chief Minister for this historic decision. He said that with this decision, the long-standing demand of the villagers and the literary world has been fulfilled.
He said that renowned writer Balwant Gargi was neglected by the previous government’s. It was first time ever in year 2022 that an official ceremony was organized by the language department for the first time at Balwant Gargi’s birth place Sehna’s Nehri Kothi and now the government has named the school afte his name in his village.
Meet Hayer said that the state government is committed to the honor of martyrs, patriots, writers and sportsmen. The government has also named schools after the names of martyrs and freedom fighters. He said that writers are our guiding lights and only by establishing memorials in their names, the coming generation will know about the contribution of writers in the rich heritage.
